Quest 5: Sword of Strangers

Cain informs you that you need to retrieve and restore a magical sword. The first piece is found in the Fields of Misery, a large wilderness area that is teeming with new enemies. Straying off the path here is much more dangerous than in earlier wilderness and the player can expect to find some difficult enemies. Explore the wilderness until the Khazra Den is found, staying wary of the telltale creaking of walking trees. Enter the Khazra Den to find a group of dark coven followers led by Urik the Seer, an elite Dark Zealot who is electrified. Once he is dead, Maghda will appear and summon another round of dark cultists for you to fight. They have relatively weak health and rely on summoning to do damage, so quickly use a few area of effect (AOE) skills to clear the way. Grab the shard and return to town to see Cain and Leah.

Monsters

In Diablo, green is a danger color

  • Moon Clan – A common enemy, these goatmen practice stealth, surprising the hero in small groups. Individually weak, they can quickly gang up on you. Later versions will include magic users and advanced fighters. Larger herds may be accompanied by Savage Beasts.
  • Savage Beasts – Large animals with a powerful charge that can knock the hero flying. Features a large amount of health and strong melee. Avoid its charge to stay alive.
  • Wood Wraith – A nasty tree that uproots to attack with melee. When re-rooted it sprouts poison spores that explode when struck or after around 10 seconds. These can easily kill an unwary looter with large amounts of poison damage.
  • Dark Zealots – The low-level grunts of the Dark Coven, can summon Hellion dogs and higher level demons in later quests.
  • Hellions – Summoned hounds of hell that are channeled by dark cultists, have decent health and melee attack.

Possible Side Dungeons

  • Scavengers Den (Fields of Misery)
    • Lvl 1 – Small packs of leapers and quill demons
    • Lvl 2 – Small area with rare enemy or champion group
  • Decaying Crypt (Fields of Misery)
    • Lvl 1 – Regular undead creatures
    • Lvl 2 – The Family of Rathe event (see below)

Possible Events and Locations

  • House of Curios – In the middle of the Fields of Misery lies a small patch of land labeled the Lonely Dwelling, where a small house is found. Inside is Adenah Curio, a unique merchant who has some higher quality magic items.
  • Folorn Farm – Click on the dead beast, fight the leapers that emerge and their leader. Go into the cellar to meet the farmer and Mrs. Bates, open treasure chest for reward.
  • Event: Carrion Farm – In the Fields of Misery may lie an area named Forsaken Grounds. Speak to the Beleaguered Farmer and help him clear his land of Carrion Nests (Cursed Nests).
  • Event: The Family of Rathe – Talk to the ghost, Willa Rathe who asks you to bring death to her family, again. Her family members are elite zombies, with the father an elite Walking Corpse, the mother an elite Wretched Mother and the son a frozen elite. Talk to the ghost again to receive a magic item for reward.
